THE TOWN HALL
In 1238, the administrators of Béziers acquired the Ermengaud Hotel in order to build a "community centre".
From the 14th to the 16th century, successive acquisitions allowed for the enlargement of the house and the creation of rooms. The square was paved and belltower and a clock were built.
In 1728, Rollin, the Province's architect, proposed a grandiose project comprising two main buildings in the classical style surrounding a new belfry. Only the belfry was built around 1745. Today, it serves as the majestic entrance to the City Hall, which stands behind it.
A few years later, the building housed the courthouse on the ground floor and a large concert hall on the first floor.
A new extension in the middle of the 19th century allowed for the installation of a museum, a library, the fire department, as well as a public school!
Today, this building only houses municipal services and the concert hall has become the City Council room.
